An established hut route with a deliberate acclimatisation day at Horombo.
The journey
Six days with acclimatisation.
Known as the Coca-Cola Route, Marangu is Kilimanjaro's oldest and most established path. It is also the only route with permanent hut accommodation rather than tents. Some climbers prefer this. We recommend the six-day version, which adds an acclimatisation day at Horombo Hut and significantly improves summit success.

Marangu Gate (1,860m) to Mandara Hut (2,700m)
Drive to Marangu Gate. Registration and route briefing. Begin the climb through dense tropical rainforest. Black-and-white colobus monkeys watch from the canopy, the air rich with moisture and bird call. About 4–5 hours of trekking at a gentle gradient. Arrive at Mandara Hut by mid-afternoon. Hot dinner and sleep in a wooden A-frame hut.
OvernightMandara Hut
Day02
Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,720m)
Out of the rainforest into open heather and moorland. The landscape opens dramatically. About 6–7 hours of climbing. Arrive at Horombo Hut, a large, well-established camp where climbers from other routes also gather. First views of Kibo, the main summit. Acclimatisation walk in the late afternoon.

Day03
Acclimatisation Day at Horombo
The day that doubles summit success. A slow morning. An acclimatisation walk up toward Zebra Rocks, about 3–4 hours. Climb high, sleep low. Your body produces the red blood cells needed for the summit. Return to Horombo for lunch, an afternoon of rest, and an early dinner. The mountain teaches you to slow down.
OvernightHorombo Hut

Through the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. The landscape becomes alpine desert: lunar, almost otherworldly. About 6–7 hours of climbing. Arrive at Kibo Hut by mid-afternoon. Eat. Sleep early. The summit attempt begins at midnight.

Final descent through moorland and back into the rainforest, about 5–6 hours. Certificates are issued at the gate. Vehicle transfer back to Moshi. A real shower. A celebration dinner with the team. Tomorrow you fly home, changed.
